Princess Sophie and the Six Swans

A Tale from the Brothers Grimm

Retold & Illustrated by Kim Jacobs

Wisdom Tales, Nov. 2017, $16.95

ISBN-13: 978-1937786670

Special thanks to Kathy Floyd at Wisdom Tales Press for providing this beautiful book copy for the honor of reviewing on MCBD 2018. I have always been a fan of fairy tales since I was a very young reader, and this adaptation is retold and beautifully illustrated by Kim Jacobs. Aimed at readers ages four and up, this version has crossover appeal to younger and older audiences, early readers, and fans of all things fairy tales! With the characters of the six brothers and their sister who must relearn a lesson in kindness, this book has appeal for boys and girls. A gorgeous hard-cover retelling of the legend of six-brothers-turned-into-swans. Interesting note from the author shares how this tale was passed down through oral tradition centuries before the Grimm brothers first published the tale nearly 200 years ago. Though this version has some twists that make for a suspenseful and fun read for ages 5 and up, with a couple answers thrown into the story to answer questions the author always wondered about when she heard this tale.

Thanks to author Jennifer Joseph and Phantom Pen Press for sharing this title for review. For young readers, the ABCs like you've never seen, introducing all the beauty that can be found when we open our eyes and see the world around us--even if some oddities may be out of this world--literally. Fun illustrations carry readers through colorful scenes of creatures, real and imaginary, that together make up a beautiful world.
